Lineworkers eager and ready to climb poles crowded the competition field at this year’s International Lineman’s Rodeo where seven of Central’s linemen competed in October.
“The competition we participated in reflects the work we do within our communities,” said Jerry Cundiff, Central lineman and rodeo participant. “You have to make quick decisions that could mean life or death when working to restore electricity. Competing helps us train for those moments.”
Each year, some of the best lineworkers from around the world compete at the International Lineman’s Rodeo. Central’s linemen were among the 200 teams of linemen and 300 apprentices from cooperatives, municipalities, contractors and investor-owned utility companies who competed.
The competing categories are designed to test and challenge lineworkers in categories of hurt man rescue, pole climb and two mystery events added this year.
“This is the first time in quite a while Central participated, and our guys made us proud,” said Dewayne Drury, Director of Operations. “All of the linemen and employees at Central were rooting for them from home.”
