An update from CEO, Hunter Robinson
As a lineman, you learn to respect electricity and the great power it has. Not only does it have the power to change someone’s life for the better but also it has the power to take life. Linemen are trained to work in hazardous conditions every single day. We are trained to take our time and thoroughly think through the task at hand. It is human nature to become complacent when work becomes repetitive, and it takes extreme self-discipline and awareness to maintain a keen sense of one’s surroundings and thinking through all of the what ifs.
My background as a lineman has instilled within me a passion for safety. It is a passion I try to pass on to every employee at Central Rural Electric Cooperative, and a passion that transcends to one of the seven cooperative principles: concern for community. We constantly practice safety measures and think about the safety of our membership and the general public.
When we made the decision earlier this year to postpone our annual meeting, we did so with concern for community, and the health and wellness of our members and employees at the forefront of our minds. As October 8 approaches, we are still erring on the side of caution in an effort to keep you safe.
Rather than postpone again or cancel our annual meeting, we have looked at ways to adjust the meeting to both accomplish our goal of member engagement, as well as keep everyone safe. We love engaging with our members and feel this year’s format will allow for interaction that wouldn’t be possible in a virtual-only event.
In the coming months, you will receive your official notice which will include information on the four annual meeting locations. It will also include information on the proposed bylaw amendments. We hope the extra meeting locations are more convenient for you and help balance the shortened format. We also plan to have each location open longer to allow you to come at a time that is convenient for you.
My annual meeting presentation, as well as the board president and secretary/treasurer presentation will be available online. If you are unable to watch the presentations online, the information is available in the Annual Report. An additional copy of the report will be included in your annual meeting bag.
We are excited to have the opportunity to see you this fall even if it is does look different than usual. We appreciate your willingness to come and be engaged in the business of your cooperative all while staying safe at this year’s 81st Annual Meeting!
