Smart Community Source initiative receives grant

Central Electric Cooperative was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from the CoBank’s Sharing Success charitable contribution program to assist in the development of the Smart Community Source initiative.  Under the program, CoBank allocates $3 million annually to match charitable contributions by cooperatives.

The Smart Community Source initiative will serve as a catalyst for communities to plan and develop resources that help communities become smarter. The initiative aims to develop community leaders who can create a vision and lead change, create community alliances and a smart ecosystem that take advantage of collective intelligence, evaluate smart technologies for smart urban development and critical infrastructure, and adopt programs that improve quality of life for
communities.

The project was chosen by CoBank because of the vital role Smart Community Source will play in the communities in Central’s service area. Partnering with Central to support the causes Central cares about most is a way for CoBank to make a positive impact and fulfill its mission of service to rural America.

CoBank is a member of the Farm Credit System, a nationwide network of banks and retail lending associations chartered to support the borrowing needs of U.S. agriculture, rural infrastructure and rural communities. Headquartered outside Denver, Colorado, CoBank serves customers from regional banking centers across the United States.
